A Spirited Stop in Cambridge: The Cambridge Gin Lab

Looking for one of the most fun and immersive activities in Cambridge? Head no further than the beautiful Cambridge Gin Laboratory, right in the heart of the city.

I was invited to try the Make It class, which is an absolute bargain at £35 and a dream for gin lovers. Having done similar experiences with Gin in London and other spirits Globally, this one really stands out. It goes beyond a standard tour and tasting by letting you get hands-on, making it a perfect way to spend an hour while exploring.

The experience begins with a quick introduction in their beautiful shop followed by time to the classroom. Equipped with a welcome G&T the class kicks off with a guided look and smell at the botanicals that shape each flavor. Then comes the highlight: creating your own, perfect, gin. With expert guidance, you’ll mix and measure your own blend, making the experience both interactive and surprisingly easy. Think Science Museum but for adults!

Of course, there’s tasting involved too, giving you a real appreciation for the craft behind each bottle. After you finish your creation, you are invited to try your ultimate beverage and it’s even possible to purchase a custom bottle on site. Traveling by plane? The shop has a huge collection of carry-on approved bottles as well.

Set in a historic building dating back to 1701, and one of the few in Cambridge to retain its original structure, the Gin Lab blends history with modern creativity. It’s also a fun reminder to be using science equipment in a city known for world-changing discoveries, including the structure of DNA, which was discovered just down the road.

If you’re looking for a unique and memorable Cambridge activity, and one of the best gin experiences in the UK this one easily earns a spot on your itinerary.
