As someone who has traversed the world and possesses a fervor for discovering new ventures, the prospect of returning home may not always appear enticing. However, it can be! Here are my tips for making the most out of your visit to your hometown:
1. Explore something new: Conduct a quick Google search to uncover highly-rated coffee shops or restaurants. Embrace your traditions while also potentially initiating new ones with loved ones.
2. Plan social gatherings: Prioritize and allocate ample time in advance to connect with various acquaintances during your visit. There’s no shame in announcing your return on social media so you don’t forget anyone. One of my biggest values is long-term friendships and there is something so healing about re-connecting with friends from many years ago.
3. Revisit and reminisce: Reflect on your accomplishments since leaving your hometown. Stroll down memory lane, visit former hangouts, schools, and parks. This Mental Health Awareness Month, take pride in what you’ve accomplished and celebrate journey.
4. Be present: Set aside distractions and immerse yourself in the company of those around you. While it may be tempting to check your phone or plan future activities, cherish these fleeting moments. My only reason for checking the screen is listed below…
Saying goodbye can be the toughest part of returning home. My advice: schedule another visit before departing. This will give both you and your family/friends a locked in, secure date to look forward to. So, go! Embrace the essence of your hometown and enjoy your venture!
